Wedding Day Sickness

|

For quite a while the Big Man and I have thrown around the idea of trying to get pregnant in the lead up to the wedding. The plan was for me to still be in my first trimester so I that I don't have a baby belly and the point was so that we can have a baby as soon as possible after we are married :) It hasn't really worked out that way yet (trust me, I wouldn't be sitting here with a margarita if it had!) and maybe it is for a good reason.....

When I told my doctor about my plans she strongly suggested that I stop being so impatient and wait until after we are married. To which I very politely told her that she was being old fashioned. She explained that her suggestion wasn't based upon her morals but rather that she wanted me to enjoy my wedding day without having to worry about morning sickness. I pretty much put her comments aside though and we carried on with our plan.

My sister also took it upon herself to remind me of how ridiculously sick she was in her first (and second and third) trimester. I (again) ever so politely told her that just because she had morning sickness doesn't mean that I will.....

Then the other day I read Fern's post over at Not Nigella and she was talking about how sick she was on her wedding day. She was 9 weeks pregnant and spent most of the day struggling to breath (thanks to her expanding bust) and running off to be sick every couple of hours.

I think I might be starting to get the message...... wedding day + pregnancy = a day that is memorable for all of the wrong reasons. I always have been the kind of person that had to hear it 3 or more times before I listen!

(I'm sorry I didn't listen to you in the first place J!)

I'd love to hear your experiences too - especially if you didn't have morning sickness :)

Oh no, I didn't mean to put anyone off!

I am very predisposed to vomit, I can't travel in the car for more than 15 minutes without being violently sick, and so I was just very susceptible to MS. I also wasn't aware at the time that there were drugs for it. As soon as I started taking the prescribed pills twice a day (Maxalon) everything went away. As soon as I got a BFP this time round I went to the doctor, got some Maxalon and I can count on my hands how many times I've been sick.

That said, it was a very stressful time, in fact the whole pregnancy was, but I really do think that those first formative weeks that Declan was developing were filled with so much stress that it did affect him. He's a very easily stressed out child and I think it has to do with how it all was when I got pregnant.

That said, telling our family that I was pregnant during the wedding speeches was an awesome moment :)

I didn't get too much morning sickness when I was pregnant, but the constant nausea and avoidance of strong smells (especially perfume, hair spray, make up and food) would put me off trying for a baby until after the big day - one thing to concentrate on at a time. Oh, that and not being able to drink champagne to toast all those who help.

Do what makes YOU happy - isn't that what they all say for the wedding? lol enjoy practice.

Hi Fern and Jeanie, thanks for your comments! I know you didn't mean, to put me off Fern, but you definitely have! Well, at least until after the wedding ;). Besides Jeanie's right, it would be nice to be able to drink champagne on the day....

The part I had been really focusing on was how exciting it would be to announce our pregnancy to all of our friends and family on the day. Although as soon as anyone noticed that I wasn't drinking champagne they would probably work it out anyway!

Oh well at least it will give me something to look forward to after the wedding :)

Well if family history is anything to go by, unfortunately Maxalon is not going to work for you! Did nothing for me anyway. Vitamin B injections all the way, painful, but effective. Of course there was an inexplicable shortage during my pregnancy though... You've always been the tough one. You know me, I just randomly wake up some mornings and vomit. :o)

Can't wait to get you back for the "Morning sickness is a state of mind" comments!

Ouch J, I was kind of hoping you would forget that I ever said that :) SORRY!

Hopefully I won't get as sick as you and Mum, but I guess only time will tell :)

I had no morning sickness with my son. But i can tell you that i photographed a wedding where the bride was pregnant and was nearly throwing up in the gardens when we were trying to do lovely romantic, fun photos. Kind of spoils the moment and who wants to kiss someone who has been sick :( Yuck!

Thanks Jodie, I hadn't even thought of that... Maybe I should start to think about my husband-to-be a bit more and stop thinking so much about myself!!
