Wedding Stress

In 10 and a half weeks time The Big Man and I are getting married. I'm not as excited about it as I feel like I should be and I still can't make my mind up about all the (so called) important things.

Since we were first engaged we have toyed with the idea of eloping and the closer we get to the day the more I want to do it. I have written out the benefits of each option, but I am still no closer to knowing what to do...

Benefits of a Big Wedding

1. I will get to dress up as a bride and have everyone say how beautiful I look (even if they don't mean it, hehe)

2. All of our family and friends will be able to share in our special day

3. No one will feel like they have been left out

4. We will be able to enjoy all of the trimmings that come with a traditional wedding, a bridal party, big cake, speeches, a first dance etc etc

5. I wont have to call all of my vendors and tell them that we are cancelling.

6. I will feel like I have achieved something (silly, but true)

Benefits of Eloping

1. We will save a big fat stack of money

2. I won't have to worry about planning, stressing or fussing over the details

I would love to hear your thoughts or stories from when you got married... I am going to have to make a final decision very soon... Thanks :)

We went halfway between the two options. A 'location' wedding (on the beach on a nearby island), all family and friends invited, a table full of nibbles and a couple of big containers of ice with cans of drink buried in them. People really seemed to enjoy it, the atmosphere was relaxed, the cost was low... and when we went off to get photos taken, the tourists were enchanted and took photos of their own :-D

I liked it then, and I like it in retrospect too... I wore a white dress, hubby wore white too (fisherman's pants and pirate shirt), everyone was barefoot. The photos and video were beautiful. We didn't have to leave anyone out due to financial constraints - anyone who wanted to come was welcome.

I say elope, definitely, but you know I am the only one in the family that thinks that. If you do elope, you still have to buy Ava "Wedding Barbie". Ha ha just kidding.

Heh, probably not what you want to hear, but I wish we had eloped, we spoke about it as an option, but ended up choosing a small outdoor wedding with just 25 family members. There was so much drama I honestly just wish we'd used the money to go on holiday and get hitched there without all the trimmings.

Thanks for your lovely feedback ladies!

@ Fern - I was considering the small wedding option with just family and best friends (ie 25 guests), but I am worried that it will be just as much hassle as a big wedding but not as rewarding. So I really appreciate your thoughts!! Thank you :)

@ Nomesque - You have inspired me! I like the idea of a casual wedding, I could have the whole event in The Big Man's parent's garden and keep it very low key (and inexpensive) :)

@ HWWP - Behave yourself J, Mum won't be impressed that you are encouraging me ;)

Hmmm, what about all the money lost from your parents or Sean's parents, or yourselves? If you do elope make sure you come up here and have your photos still!

Hey Jodie, we are still coming up to the Bay and will still require your amazing services. Don't think for a second that I would miss out on my chance - your work is gorgeous! It just might not be the big wedding that we had originally planned, maybe more of a garden party..... Will email you soon :)
